Building Trauma-Prepared Organizations

An eight-hour certificate workshop in workplace trauma preparedness and response

Organizations invest heavily in physical safety, emergency response, and incident command. Yet many remain underprepared for the psychological, relational, and cultural impact of a workplace fatality, serious injury, employee suicide, violence, medical emergency, natural disaster, or sudden loss of a colleague.

This highly interactive workshop moves beyond awareness. Sarah guides participants through the foundation of a Workplace Trauma Preparedness Plan that can be adapted to their organization.

Who should attend

  • Organizational and operational leaders
  • Human resources and employee-relations professionals
  • Safety, risk, emergency-management, and security personnel
  • Behavioral-health, wellness, and employee-assistance staff
  • Supervisors, peer-support leaders, union representatives, and communications professionals
  • Teams working in construction, healthcare, public safety, government, education, and other high-responsibility environments

Organizations are encouraged to send a small cross-functional team so the planning work reflects more than one perspective.

What participants will do

Participants will work through facilitated activities to:

  • Identify the people and roles needed on an internal Trauma Preparedness Team
  • Assess the traumatic events most likely to affect their workplace
  • Connect psychological response with existing incident-command and emergency structures
  • Clarify leadership, communication, and decision-making responsibilities
  • Plan compassionate notification, outreach, and support following an incident
  • Evaluate existing internal and external resources
  • Identify gaps that require policy, partnership, training, or leadership attention
  • Consider the phases of preparedness, immediate response, stabilization, recovery, and organizational learning

Learning outcomes

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to explain the organizational impact of workplace trauma, distinguish trauma preparedness from individual treatment, organize a coordinated response structure, communicate with greater care and confidence, and identify concrete next steps for strengthening their organization.

What is included

  • Eight hours of facilitated instruction and applied planning
  • The Workplace Trauma Preparedness workbook and planning materials
  • A certificate of completion
  • Guided activities that produce the beginnings of an organization-specific plan
  • Follow-up priorities participants can bring back to leadership

All participant materials and the certificate are included with registration. The curriculum is owned by SEG Consulting and is delivered by Sarah W. Gaer.

Important perspective

This workshop does not turn managers into therapists. It helps organizations build the preparation, roles, communication, and support pathways needed to care for people responsibly when a traumatic event affects the workplace.
